Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli: The New Susan Boyle
Britain’s Got Talent just did it again. Shy Jonathan Antoine and his supportive singer partner, Charlotte Jaconelli, are the new “Susan Boyle.”
Bullied most of his life for being overweight and shy, Jonathan’s singing is unbelievable.
So is his loyalty. When Simon Cowell suggests that Charlotte may hold Jonathan back, without hesitation, Jonathan insists that they came as a duo and they are staying as a duo. That’s loyalty.
And that loyalty works both ways. Charlotte stood by, encouraged, and believed in Jonathan when no one else did.
His performance reminds me of Paul’s words to Timothy to “stir up the gift of God within him” because he had not been given a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, love, and wisdom.

Paul Potts was my guy. The change in Simon’s attitude, the crowd, the amazing talent from someone so unassuming. Brings tears to my eyes any time someone with a talent and a passion does what God gifted them to do.

I agree Karen. Paul, Susan, and now Jonathan. Quite the trio. I’ve blogged about each of them. I guess they remind me of me…just a misfit being used graciously by our amazing God through Christ’s amazing grace.
This was absolutely stunningly beautiful! I was quickly moved to tears, not only because of the surprising power of the performance, but because I saw an illustration of how God works: “For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,[a] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being[b] might boast in the presence of God.” Obviously the video was not about salvation, but it still pictures how God surprises us and brings glory to himself. Thanks for sharing it Bob.
Pat, Whenever I read those verses, I think of the “Island of Misfit Toys” on the old Rudolph claymation Christmas special. Misfits marveously and graciously made useful and beautiful and powerful in and through Christ.
We are all born misfits just trying to deny it until our father shows us our need for HIM!
