Fun with Family and Friends
This summer my Mom and Step-Dad are staying with us for eight weeks.
And, this weekend, Shirley and I will bring her Mom home with us for the next two weeks.
Already, it’s been an awesome summer of fun with family and friends.
We’ve had great times with extended family—nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, brothers, sisters, parents, children.
We’ve laughed, talked seriously, and talked silliness!
We’ve played outdoor games, indoor games, and even played outdoor games inside (bean bag toss inside anyone?).
We’ve swam, played badminton, played volleyball, played whiffle ball, and any other game with a ball or birdie that you can imagine.
We’ve played board games and card games of every type imaginable.
We’ve had quiet gatherings of four.
We’ve had raucous times with four dozen.
We’ve rented movies and watched favorite TV shows.
We’ve gone out to eat, gone to ball games, attended church, spent a weekend at a cabin, gone to a car show, enjoyed an evening of karaoke, and much, much more.
We’ve celebrated birthdays, graduations, Father’s Day, and will soon celebrate a wedding (I have the joy of officiating at the wedding of my nephew and niece-to-be).
We’ve loved each other, cared for each other, and enjoyed each other.
We’ve invited neighbors and friends to join our family gatherings—so they, too, could experience our joy.
All Things Richly to Enjoy
Truly, this past month has been one of the most enjoyable times with family and friends that I’ve ever had.
In 1 Timothy 6:17, Paul tells us that God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
In 1 Timothy 4:4, Paul reminds us that everything God created is good and to be received and enjoyed with thanksgiving.
In James 1:17, James explains that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.
In Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus teaches that all the Bible hangs on loving God and loving one another.
You may have read the title of this post—“Fun with Family and Friends”—and wondered why I’d be posting at RPM Ministries about that.
On the basis of the passages above, and many others, I submit that:
There is nothing more spiritual than richly enjoying family and friends.
