What About Bob?
I’ve received a number of emails from regular readers who are wondering why I have not posted recently.
It’s good to know that I’m missed!
Where’s Bob? (Like…Where’s Waldo?)
Normally, even during vacations, I pre-date posts so that you can read blog posts everyday designed to equip you to change lives with Christ’s changeless truth.
At the very least, if I know that I am unable to post due to being away, I leave some notice like “Coming Back Soon.”
However, events of the past few weeks have interrupted “normal” life.
Good Interruptions
Some of those interruptions have been good, even great, interruptions.
• My parents have stayed with us all summer.
• Shirley’s Mom has been with us for a month.
• I was honored to officiate at the wedding of my nephew.
• We’ve had tons of extended family in town (see pic of my Mom, three of my siblings, and me).
Normal Life and Ministry
In the midst of these good interruptions, I’ve tried to work hard and smart to fulfill my normal life and ministry obligations, such as:
• My role as Executive Director of the Biblical Counseling Coalition.
• My role as Chairman of the MA in Christian Counseling and Discipleship Department at Capital Bible Seminary.
• My role as Executive Director of the Center for Church Equipping for the Association of Biblical Counselors.
• My role as CEO of RPM Ministries.
• My role as Elder at Cornerstone Community Church.
Unexpected “Interruptions”
I think I could have juggled the good interruptions and my normal roles…I think.
What I could not do is juggle those plus the interruption of health issues for six extended family members.
Since I neither want to break the confidentiality of my family members, nor violate HIPPA privacy regulations, I won’t name names or go into details.
Suffice it to say, that when six family members in the space of six weeks are facing health concerns, some of which led to a 911 call, three emergency room visits, and two extended hospital stays…well…blogging drops down on the list of priorities.
While everyone is doing better now, we’d certainly appreciate your prayers for ongoing recovery and for Christ’s peace.
It Takes a Family
I will say this, it has been an awesome “God thing” that so many extended family members were here while all this was occurring.
It does “take a family.”
And we are closer than ever.

I know that our family is not alone in facing times of trials and testing.
So, how can I pray for you and your family?
