5 to Live By: 5 Top Christian Blog Posts of the Week—The TGC Edition
Linking you to the top 5 Christian blog posts of the week—posts that provide robust, rich, and relevant insights for living.
Note: Today is a special Gospel Coalition Edition. The Gospel Coalition provides a platform for a wide array of leading Evangelical bloggers. I encourage you to link to their site and visit often. Here’s a sampling of five recent blogs that you can find at TGC.
Sharing the Gospel with People Who Change Your Diapers
Darren Carlson did not grow up in a Christian home and he and his wife have many relatives who are not believers in Christ. Darren shares wise relational principles for being a witness to unsaved family members in Sharing the Gospel with People Who Changed Your Diapers.
When God Withdraws the Sense of His Presence
What do you do when you’re not feeling the experience of God’s presence? It’s a question all of us are likely to struggle with at some time, but when that few have the courage and wisdom to address. Pastor Ryan Kelly interviews Mark Mellinger about the doctrine of desertion which helps us to make sense of the psalms and of our experience of spiritual dryness. Read his thoughts (and find links to additional resources) at When God Withdraws the Sense of His Presence.
Including Children in Our Small Groups?
Small group ministry is a vital part of church life for many Christians—as it should be. But, what do we do with children? Logan Gentry suggests that we must move beyond our “life-stage idolatry to see the church as a family” (ouch—that’s convicting!). He provides biblical support and practical ideas for three ways to including children in our small groups. Read his thoughts in Everyone Benefits by Including Children in Small Groups.
Making a Difference
TGC has an ongoing series of blog posts called The Page That Changed My Life. Various people shared one page from one book that significantly impacted their live and ministry. In this post, Which Generation Do You Live For? David Mathis reflects on a paragraph from Robert Coleman’s modern-day classic The Master Plan of Evangelism. The particular section emphasizes that for most of us, fulfilling the Great Commandment (and thus living a fulfilling life) will occur not by mass evangelism but by relational and intentional discipling of the few.
Dear Stay-at-Home Moms
In addition to the many people who periodically post for TGC, TGC has over a dozen bloggers whose blogs are TGC blogs—essentially regular bloggers who have been “vetted” as TGC-approved and whose blogs have an official relationship with TGC. Simply go to the TGC home page and use the pull down tab at the note called Blogs to find all the names and links.
Here’s an example: Trevin Wax’s Kingdom People is a TGC blog. Trevin is always informative, as in this sample: Dear Stay-at-Home Mom in which Trevin addresses how stay-at-home moms live out the gospel.
