How to Have an Honest Conversation with God
How do we talk honestly with God? When we’re suffering, what do we say to God? When we’re struggling yet again with a sinful attitude or ungodly habit, how do we talk to God? When loss and loneliness seem to overwhelm, how do we have an honest conversation with God?
There is nothing more important in life than our relationship with God. And every relationship involves communication.
In our new Cornerstone Community Church series on the Psalms that begin January 12, 2014, Dr. Bob Kellemen guides us through God’s Word as we learn How to Have an Honest Conversation with God.
The Prayer Book of the Bible
The Psalms have been called the Prayer Book of the Bible. The Psalms teach us how to pray—not sterile, academic, ritual prayers, but honest-to-God prayers.
Reading the Psalms is like listening in on conversations between a friend and God. The psalmists are real and raw. Their conversations with God are honest and candid. Their relationship with God is dynamic and intimate.
The Psalms teach us what to do with our tears and fears, our sadness and gladness, our loneliness and longings. The Psalms are the cry of the soul.

Conversation…through Christ
How to have a conversation with God is a vital question, of course, or I would not be preaching this series.
However, there is an even more fundamental question. Why do we have access to a holy God?
Hebrews 10:19-25 answers that question in one word—Christ. Here’s the longer version of the answer:
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Our conversation with God just like our relationship with God—is all through Christ, all because of Christ’s birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension. Christ is the Way who has opened for us the Door so that we can enter into God’s presence in prayer with holy boldness—confidence that we have an audience with the all-holy God of the universe.
So, join us as we learn How to Have an Honest Conversation with God—through Christ.
