A SWOT Analysis or a SWORD Heart Exam?: Free Resource
Many people have used a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis to assess their church, para-church, ministry, or organization.
In my book, Equipping Counselors for Your Church, I introduce a biblical assessment method that I developed call “A SWORD Heart Exam”:
- Strengths: Identifying Strengths—What have we done and are we doing well according to a biblical model of ministry?
- Weaknesses: Recognizing Weaknesses—Where and why do we need to improve so that our ministry focus is thoroughly biblical?
- Opportunities: Picturing Opportunities—How can we move toward biblically robust ministry?
- Risks: Evaluating Risks—What obstacles stand in the way of healthy biblical ministry?
- Diagnosis: Diagnosing Heart Fitness—What prescriptions does God’s Word suggest, given the state of our ministry’s biblical heart health?
