A Word from Bob: I posted this “tweet-thread” on Twitter… FYI for non-Twitter users: #BibleCN is a “shorthand” hashtag for Biblical Counseling. It’s used to alert Twitter users that a tweet discusses biblical counseling. Here are 15 tweet-size thoughts about the biblical counseling movement…
Twitter Tweet Thread on #BibleCn
A long thread on #BibleCn = the biblical counseling movement. Shared for biblical counselors & for critics of biblical counseling. First, as biblical counselors, let’s be humbly open to learning, growing, & changing.
As a #BibleCn movement, we highlight progressive sanctification & self-confrontation. So, it should be natural for us to want to grow & change individually as counselors & as a movement. If we practice what we preach, then we should be open to feedback & even pushback.
While the Bible is perfect, we individually & as a corporate #BibleCn “movement” are imperfect. No one person or one movement will ever perfectly corner the market on “truth-for-life.”
There’s no need to be defensive when people inside or outside the #BibleCn world challenge us. Let’s humbly live Phil. 1:9-11: praying that our love would abound more & more in knowledge & depth of insight so that we can increasingly discern what is best.
Where do we have room for growth? In “Consider Your Counsel: Addressing Ten Mistakes in Our Biblical Counseling, as the subtitle suggests, I address 10 areas for ongoing, continued growth in our thinking about & practice of #BibleCn but those are just starters.
Those Christians who do not “self-identify” as #BibleCn are not the enemy. While their approach to people helping may differ from ours, they are godly compassionate Christians.
For our critics, first, thank you for challenging us to grow. Please speak truth in love to us as a #BibleCn movement.
Second, please realize that we are not a monolithic #BibleCn movement with 1 leader or 1 primary organization. Check out @biblicalcc on Twitter & online for something of the breadth of our movement.
Check out @biblicalcc for “The Annual Guide to BC Resources” for over 1,000 books/booklets authored by over several 100 leaders on several 100 topics for Christian living. #BibleCn has a rich perspective.
The #BibleCn world is diverse: men, women, young, old, scores of organizations, US, international, multi-ethnic, multi-denominational, etc.
Check out @biblicalcc for the Confessional Statement which seeks to summarize 12 core robust Christ-centered, gospel-focused concepts we aspire to as a #BibleCn movement.
Now, some summaries. #BibleCn believes that for 2,000 years the church has always been about the business of helping hurting and hardened people find healing & hope in Christ.
#BibleCn believes that the Bible has robust, rich, real, raw, relevant compassionate wisdom for daily living.
#BibleCn believes in soul care via compassionate sustaining empathy & via Christ-centered healing hope, & believes in spiritual direction via grace-focused reconciling care & via relevant guiding wisdom.
#BibleCn believes that Christ calls & the Spirit empowers every Christian to offer one-another soul care & spiritual direction (Rom. 15:14; Eph. 4:11-16; Phil. 1:9-11; 1 Thess. 2:7-12). Done…for now…
