Home, Safe and Sound 

God created us out of dust—finite and dependent on Him—needy. We all long for safety and refuge—and we can find it ultimately only in God our Guard, God our Protector—our Safe Refuge. We live in a fallen, dangerous, unsafe world and we all long to be home safe and sound.

Luke 15:27: “Your brother has come,” he replied, “and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back home safe and sound.”

2 Samuel 22:2-3: The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior—from violent people you save me.

2 Samuel 22:31-33: As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. (See also Psalm 18:30-32.)

Psalm 91:1-2, 4-5: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Nahum 1:7: The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

2 Thessalonians 3:3: But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
