10 Characteristics of a Hardened Heart
At the Biblical Counseling Coalition, Brazilian pastor and biblical counselor, Dr. Sacha Mendes, provides wisdom for assessing a counselee’s spiritual condition.
Assessing the spiritual condition of our counselees is not an easy task. If we are not careful, we will wrongly judge counselees since we do not see their hearts. We can incorrectly judge them because of a lack of Christian love and shortsighted biblical discernment. The good news is that Scripture abundantly describes the human spiritual condition. It is possible to grow in a biblical and sanctified “intuition,” not as a Christian specialist who deals with sin but with a goal of getting to know the counselee to love them with the right and needed approach. God is glorified when counselors love their counselees appropriately and with biblical fidelity.

How a Pastor’s Wife Came to Care About Domestic Abuse
Pastor Chris Moles is a domestic abuse counselor and the author of The Heart of Domestic Abuse: Gospel Solutions for Men Who Use Violence and Control in the Home. At his blog, he is posting testimonies from Christians about their ministry to abuse victims. In today’s post, How a Pastor’s Wife Came to Care About Domestic Abuse, the writer shares how she came to realize that she had grown up in an abusive home. Her “tunnel vision” (as she describes it, had blinded her to her own abuse history. She writes:
“For many pastors and pastors’ wives though, abuse is not a part of your story, so you struggle to see why it should be a part of your ministry. The reality is, more than likely, you have already been directly affected by this issue. Statistically*, you already know [not a few, but many] women or children in your church community who have endured some form of abuse in their lifetime. Personally, you have many reasons to be concerned.”
