A Word from Bob
If you’re like me, you sometimes struggle for the words to pray. One of the most powerful and personal ways to pray is to pray prayers from the Bible. We can express the depths of our hearts by personalizing the prayers of the Apostle Paul. In my first post in this series, I shared prayers from Ephesians 1:15-23 and Ephesians 3:14-21. In today’s post, I’m sharing prayers from Philippians 1:9-11 and Colossians 1:9-14.
Philippians 1:9-11
And this is our prayer, Father:
that our love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight:
so that we may be able to discern what is best;
and so that we may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ;
and so that we may be filled with the fruit of righteousness
that comes through Jesus Christ:
—all so that we are to Your glory and praise.
Colossians 1:9-14
Father, we continually ask You:
to fill us with the knowledge of Your will—through all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
We pray this in order that we may live a life worthy of You Lord,
and so we may please Christ in every way:
by bearing fruit in every good work,
by growing in the knowledge of You,
by being strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might:
so that we may have great endurance and patience,
and so that we may give joyful thanks to You Father:
for You have qualified us to share in the inheritance of Your holy people—living in Your kingdom of light;
for You have rescued us from the dominion of darkness;
and You have brought us into the kingdom of the Son You Love:
in Whom we have redemption—the forgiveness of sin.
