7 Fun Facts

No, I’m not talking about the classic 1991 Bill Muray and Richard Dreyfuss comedy, What About Bob? I’m talking about…me.

On my Twitter/X feed and in my Facebook Biblical Counseling and Equipping group, we’ve had a lot of new followers/members. So, on Twitter/X and Facebook, I decided to share a very brief introduction and update. I thought perhaps I’d do the same for my RPM Ministry readers. Here goes.

A Thread Introducing Myself

  1. First, in ministry, I seek to be a Gospel-Centered, Theologically-Saturated, Relationship-Focused, Church History-Informed, Research-Aware Soul Physician of Embodied-Souls. You can learn more about these convictions here: 6 Biblical Counseling Convictions.
  1. Second, after 40 years as a pastor, professor, biblical counselor, speaker, writer, and consultant, three years ago I retired early (from making money) to focus my energies on my wife of 43 years, Shirley, in her ongoing stroke recovery. Shirley is doing great! She takes care of me now more than I take care of her!
  1. Third, in my “retirement-from-pay,” I have several areas of focus: Shirley, our two adult children, our three grandchildren, pro bono counseling of pastors, counselors, missionaries, and Christian educators, and on writing/researching on biblical counseling.
  1. Fourth, we recently moved to Florida, as the sun and warmth are therapeutic for Shirley. We love our new Florida life. We are looking for a new church, and likely will be joining a Southern Baptist church here in town.
  1. Five, for fun, Shirley and I love to host friends in our home, we like to walk and hike. We love playing board games. We enjoy dining out with friends. We also love Star Trek (all versions/series). I love all the Chicago sports teams: Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks. I love high school wrestling: I wrestled and coached for 40 years.
  1. Sixth, my research/writing passion now is an extension of a 40-year interest: theological anthropology (how God designed us) for biblical counseling (I did my Th.M. Thesis on that topic in 1984). I am especially focused on traumatic-suffering and embodied-souls.
  1. Seventh, for my frequent musings, check out my RPM Ministries website where I have a blog and 100s of free resources on biblical counseling and Christian living.
