A Biblical Prayer for Imitating Christ’s Humility
In a culture where Christian leaders can be tempted to act like middle-schoolers who dominate and bully others, we all need reminders of Christ’s humility.
In a day and age where pastors are tempted to pull rank and insist on privileges like corporate CEOs, we all need reminders of Christ’s servanthood.
Our Philippians 2 Prayer for the Humility of Christ
“Father, since you have given us incredible encouragement from being united with Christ, since we have eternal comfort from Christ’s love, since we have the gift of fellowship with the Spirit, since we experience the Trinity’s endless tenderness and compassion, may we be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
May we do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than ourselves.
May each of us look not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of others.
May our attitude be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!
In Jesus’ name, by His example, through the Spirit’s power, and for the Father’s glory, Amen.”

How would our relationships and our leadership be different if we prayed and lived out this prayer every day?
It seems to me that God is moving in the Church to address pride. Thank you for this reminder of Christ’s humility. May God show me where I am prideful and humble me as He sees fit.
Thank you for this post. One things that I have to stay on top of with God’s help is pride.
